Part 5: Hanging

T-Security: A hardware hanging system designed to securely display art in public spaces, while also deterring tampering and theft. Ideal for hospitality, healthcare, and multifamily environments, T-Security ensures art stays in place, preventing shifting, shaking, and movement. The system includes two plates attached to the top left and right corners of the frame, with a third plate mounted at the bottom center. Brackets are affixed to the wall, aligning with the plates on the back of the frame. The frame then slides onto the wall brackets. A T-Screw is inserted into the bottom plate, and a T-Wrench is used to turn the screw, locking the frame in place by making the T-shape perpendicular to the bracket.

Standard T-Security is typically “3-Point” (two brackets at the top and one centered at the bottom). Extra-large pieces may require “4-Point” (two brackets at both the top and bottom).

Cleat: Generally referred to as a French Cleat—or Z-Clips, Panel Clips, Wall Cleats or Hanging Cleats—these strips are frequently used to install large objects that need support across its full length. One length of the cleat is installed on the wall and another length is fastened to the frame, canvas or mirror. Because the weight of the art/mirror is dispersed along the entire length of the hardware, heavier objects may be mounted efficiently and securely with cleat hangers. T-Security can be used with a cleat system.

Hidden Backer Frame: A specially constructed hidden frame that is attached to the back of the substrate (most commonly metal) providing a simple and secure way to hang the artwork. Once hung, the artwork appears to be floating away from the wall.

Acrylic with Through-Grip Standoff

Standoff: Hardware designed to mount rigid artwork at a fixed distance from a surface (i.e. wall). Standoffs are available in different shapes and sizes to accommodate desired looks and are typically made up of a barrel, cap and wall screw. “Through-grip” standoffs are most popular and require pre-drilled holes in the substrate before hanging. “Edge-grip” standoffs attach to the edges of the substrate; therefore, holes are not needed.
